Lakota West jr high won the valley view wrestling invitational this weekend.  Going into the final round  of the 15 team invitational Lakota was in 2nd place by 29 points to Preble Shawnee and needed to come from behind.  Andrew Siciliano had 2 wins 1 by pin and 1 by tech fall to earn a 4th place at 92#. At 98# John hart earned 2 wins for a 4th place finish with 1 decision and 1 tech fall.   Garrett Price started things off with a pin in the 110 consolation finals to earn a 3rd place finish.  At 116 pounds Mathew Szczeponiak  won his third place match to earn more points for west, earning 5 wins on the day. Also at 116# seventh grader Austin Sellers who made the finals at 116 pounds pinning 3 opponents in a row to get there .  Austin wrestled the “match of the evening” going to double overtime but finally lost and ended with a strong 2nd place finish for west.  At 122 pound Will Allen earned 2 wins in the tournament but had to stop wrestling due to injury ….at 128 pounds Alden Templin earned a 3rd place finish with 3 strong match wins. 134# Cooper Skelton helped continue to close the gap on Shawnee with a third place finish racking up 3 wins. 142#  Ben Tamang made the consolation finals and had to beat the wrestle who put him in the losers bracket.  He pulled of the third place finish with a strong decision.  The gap was getting closer but at 150 and 160 pounds Lakota would meet Preble Shawnee in each weight class to crown champions and see who would pull away in the tourney standings.  At 150# Christian Bedford got things started with a pin and bonus points for his team to become the 150 #  VVI CHAMPION. Christian finished the tourney with 1 forfeit ,1 decision and 1 pin.   Then at 160 Preston Sellers was out to finish in dominant fashion pursuing his fourth pin of the day. On way to the championship not one wrestle had made it past 40 seconds with Preston, but in the final Preston earned his 4th pin in the second period to become the 160# champion.  At 172 Nathan Hunt had 2 solid wins for his team earning a 4th place finish. Nathan finished with 2 pins.  Kate Fenton had a strong tournament with 2 wins and 1 pin to finish in 6th place.  Alex key earned 2 wins and one pin at 205 pounds for a 6th place finish.  Maxx Johnson a first year wrestler eaned a close 1-0 decision to win 3rd place for Lakota and seal the deal On the championship.

Lakota finished with an 11 point lead on Preble Shawnee and the championship.

LAKOTA WEST TAKES 3RD AT TIPPECANOE

LAKOTA WEST FINISHED WITH 154 POINTS TO TAKE 3RD IN THE  TIPPECANOE JR HIGH WRESTLING INVITATIONAL.  THERE WERE 18 TEAMS IN THE TOURNEY AND LAKOTA WAS MISSING 5 STARTERS, SO THE REMAINING WRESTLERS HAD TO PICK UP THE SLACK.  ISAIAH WITMER EARNED THE 92# SPOT THIS WEEK, AND WRESTLED HARD FOR HIS TEAM.  JOHN HART AT 98# WON HIS FIRST MATCH WITH A PIN IN 1:27 EARNING BONUS POINTS FOR HIS TEAM…ARJUN RAJAGOPAL WAS AT 104# AND SCORED 2 TAKEDOWNS 1 ESCAPE AND 1 REVERSAL THIS WEEK .  AT 110# GARRET PRICE WON HIS 3RD MATCH BY PIN 1:53 EARNING BONUS FOR HIS TEAM.  AT 116# POUNDS MATHEW SZCZEPANIAK WON THE CHAMPIONSHIP EARNING FIVE WINS, 4 BY PIN, AND ONE IN THE FINALS BY A 9-6 DECISION,  MATHEW CONTINUES TO EARN HUGE POINTS FOR HIS TEAM….ALSO AT 116 POUNDS AT THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE BRACKET AUSTIN SELLERS WON 4 MATCHES 2 BY PIN, AND EARNED 2ND PLACE AT 116 POUNDS.   AT 122 WILL ALLEN WON 2 MATCHES 1 BY PIN AND 1 BY DEFAULT TO EARN BONUS POINTS.  AT 128# ALDEN TEMPLIN WAS ALMOST GOING TO NOT WRESTLE FEELING SICK, BUT FOUGHT THROUGH THE PAIN TO EARN 4 PINS IN A ROW WITH HIS SIGNATURE HEAD LOCK TO FINISH 2ND AT 128…AT 142#   BEN TAMANG EARNED 5 WINS 4 BY PIN, ONE PIN IN :10 SECONDS TO BECOME THE 142 CHAMPION.   AT 150# COLIN KLINE EARNED THE VARSITY SPOT THIS WEEK AND POSTED 2 WINS BY PIN AND FINISHED A SOLID 4TH PLACE FOR HIS TEAM….AT 160# PRESTON SELLERS WON 4 MATCHES ALL BY PIN,INCLUDING 2 PINS IN UNDER :30 SECONDS TO BECOME THE 160# CHAMPION.   KATE FENTON EARNED A WIN FOR HER TEAM BY PIN IN 2:26 TO EARN BONUS POINTS..AND QUALIFIED FOR THE FINAL POOL.  AT 205 ALEX KEY WON HIS FIRST MATCH QUICKLY POSTING A PIN IN :46 SECONDS….

THE LAKOTA WEST JR  HIGH WRESTLING TEAM WRESTLES TUESDAY DEC 11TH AT PLAINS AND THURSDAY DEC 13TH AT RIDGE BOTH MEETS STARTING AT 430….WE HOPE YOU COME OUT AND SUPPORT YOUR WRESTLERS.
